Nestled within the heartland of Antarctica, Patriot Hills is the home of Adventure Network International’s base camp. Established in 1987, it is the only private camp in Antarctica and will serve as your primary accommodation for the duration of your stay.
The camp is at 80º 19' south latitude and 81º 16' west longitude, 1000m above sea level and 1076km from the South Pole. Nobody has ever spent a winter in the Ellsworth Mountains but we expect that the average temperature of the coldest month must be about -40ºC (-40ºF). In midsummer the place warms to around -15ºC (+5ºF) at the camp, but at higher altitudes we will encounter much colder temperatures. Wind chill always makes the air feel colder than it is. A 4.5 hour flight from the southern tip of Chile will bring you to our camp as this area is only accessible by air.
