ANI's office in Punta Arenas, Chile, is moving to a much bigger and better facility. The Punta Arenas office is a hub of activity during our November through January operating season. It is the main supply chain for our Union Glacier camp and provides services for ANI guests transiting this Chilean Antarctic Gateway City.
Our new office, located in downtown Punta Arenas at Bernardo O'Higgins 568 (between Mejicana and Croacia), fits our needs perfectly, offering both office and warehousing space under one roof. There is ample room for preparing expedition sleds, overhauling tractors and snowmobiles, and storing Antarctic equipment over winter. The Punta Guest Services team will be on the second floor where they will present pre-departure briefings, provide advice on clothing and equipment, and give reminders about Antarctic Biosecurity. There will be an outfitting area for ANI rental clothing on the warehouse mezzanine off the second floor.
The new O’Higgins office and warehouse is just a short walk from most of the main hotels and hostels, and close to the greatly improved Costanera (coastal road) that offers pedestrian and cycle paths, gathering spaces, and public art along the Punta Arenas waterfront. A new and very good guide to Punta Arenas, Traces of Antarctica, is now available.
Those who have worked with ANI over the seasons may well remember the first ANI office on Arauco street, with its fine view over the town. The small office/apartment served us well in the early days but by 2008 it was bursting at the seams. A temporary move to a new location solved our office but not our warehousing needs. So when a large combined office and warehouse space came available this winter, we jumped at the opportunity.
A big shout out to Red de Aventura a la Antártica Ltda (called RAAL by everybody for short), the local Chilean company that runs our Punta Arenas services. The RAAL team have worked hard over the southern winter to get the new office and warehouse ready for the season. We are all looking forward to welcoming our first ANI Guests to our new facility at O’Higgins.
